Munsell Color SystemMr. Musell was a art teacher and artist who published a simple color system in 1905 and an atlas of colors in 1915. His book was very successful at creating a standardized set of colors that continues to be used by artists and publishers. to this day. The Munsell standardized colors make it very easy for people to communicate in the language of color. Although other tools exist to define colors, most notably the CIE 1931 and ___ standards, they are slightly more difficult to work with in comparison to the Munsell system. The simplicity of the system as helped it gain wide acceptance by artists, designers, photography, printers, and more. The system is very simple... As with other systems the color is defined in three pieces, Hue, Chroma and Value. Hue ranges from 1 to 100 around a circle. To make it easy to work with the colors, the Munsell system uses the first letter of each color, or combinations in the case of mixtures to make in immediately obvious what the general hue is. They are: R, YR., Y, GY, G, BG, B, PB, P and RP, which stands for Red, Yellow-Red, Yellow, Green-Yellow, Green, Blue-Green, Blue, Purple-Blue, Purple, and Red-Purple. Blue isn't what you think In order for the Munsell system to work out so simply, they had to redefine the color Blue. What we would know as Blue is considered Purple-Blue in the Munsell system while a Cyanish is Blue is called Blue. Magenta is defined as Purple-Blue while Monsell's Purple is what we would consider as a Bluish Magenta.

Value ranges from 0 to 10, and Chroma, or the saturation level of a color ranges from 0 to 10. Munsell colors are easily written in the form Hue Value/Chroma for example R10.2 8.2/9.1 for a non gray color, or 7.3/. in the case of a achromatic gray.

Munsell was an artist and art teacher .He developed the basic principles of the system and published them in a small book, A Colour Notation, in 1905. In 1915, he published The Munsell Atlas of Colour, displaying coloured specimens of a range of values and chromas for ten hues. He formed the Munsell Colour Company to produce colour standards in 1918, but died the same year. His son sponsored studies at the National Bureau of Standards and in the Munsell Colour Laboratory, which led to the improved colour scales in the l929 edition of The Munsell book of colour, which displayed 20 hues.

Cells are sized by the largest cell in a column. To make the cells larger, put nbsp in them. But make every other one a regular space (use a space in the text) becuase it takes less code and allows a carriage return to be inserted if someone's screen is small. Otherwise, they will have to scroll back and forth. If no table border (tb1, ex.) is defined, the default is tb0, or no border around the cells. Text Centered Table

HIDDEN COMMENT IN TEXT: HIDDEN UNIQUE TEXT MARKER: The first essential to the application of the Munsell Color System is a clear understanding of the three dimensions of color. Once the simple logic of these dimensions is grasped, the practical advantages of the Munsell System will be apparent.
